Pain and sleep are closely connected, especially for people living with chronic pain. Ongoing pain can disrupt sleep, and poor sleep can, in turn, make pain feel more intense or harder to manage. This workshop offers a general, accessible overview of how pain and sleep influence one another. It introduces key concepts around pain processing, the nervous system, and sleep disruption, without focusing on a single treatment or solution. The session is designed to support understanding, reflection, and practical awareness, while recognizing that pain and sleep experiences vary widely from person to person. This workshop is suitable for individuals living with chronic pain and anyone interested in learning more about the pain–sleep connection.
Speaker: Greg Tippin, PhD, CPsych, is a clinical, health, and rehabilitation psychologist at the Michael G. DeGroote Pain Clinic, McMaster University Medical Centre, Hamilton Health Sciences, where he provides psychological assessment, treatment, and consultation for people living with chronic pain and sequelae. He is an assistant professor (part-time) in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences, McMaster University.
