Climate change is increasing the frequency, duration, and
intensity of extreme weather events, including extreme heat days. These events
disproportionately affect people living with chronic conditions and chronic
pain, with significant impacts on physical health, mental health, and overall
quality of life.
In this session, we will identify which clients/patients are most at risk for heat-related illness, review practical screening tools, and explore educational resources you can use with clients/patients. We will also examine evidence-based strategies to reduce heat-related risks and support self-management. At least one case study will be presented, offering an opportunity to discuss possible interventions and communication techniques.
Living Healthy Champlain offers workshops for health care professionals that will help them to support their patients in making behaviour changes based on their own motivations, and empower them to self-manage their chronic conditions.
